Welcome to Social Media, Céline

It has finally happened. Céline has joined the world of social media, opening its first official Instagram account with a stomp (a horse’s hoof on a green pasture of grass, that is.) The first post for the premium brand was bound to be subversive or, at the very least, a conversation starter. “One step. #Céline” gained 589 likes in 120 minutes. The long wait for 24-7 insights into Phoebe Philo’s aesthetic is over. So far, the brand follows no one.

Two hours after revealing its new Instagram feed, the brand revealed a quick-step video from its Spring 2017 collection, showcasing the ever-cool footwear from the brand’s summer offering. Shot from a jaunty angle that parallels Céline’s take on the world of fashion and threads, we expect to see more premium quirk on its debut social platform.

The tongue-in-cheek humor that the brand elicits via its e-commerce website is already present in its social feed. Céline.com breaks out in loud, offbeat sounds when the user navigates between shopping categories, and jolts to a montage of a broken screen before revealing the pristine online shop of luxury goods.

Originally founded in 1945 by Céline Vipiana, the brand was acquired by the LVMH group in 1996 and focuses on luxury Ready-to-Wear, laser-focused on the mantra “less but excellent.” It has been a firm favorite with fashion editors ever since, from British Vogue’s Sarah Harris to street style starlet Pernille Teisbaek.

The storied French fashion house’s Instagram launch has been long overdue, but if you are going to arrive late to a party, do make a good entrance.
