Today, April 4, marks the birthday of the First Lady of Oman, Sayyida Ahad Bint Abdullah Bin Hamad Al Busaidiyah. On this occasion, the royal family has shared a new portrait of the wife of the Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tariq, which has been the norm over the past few years. The royal’s outfits have been a focal point of the annual portraits, and this one is no different. Known to champion local talent, particularly her favorite Omani designer Amal Al Raisi, the First Lady’s sartorial choices combine traditional details and silhouettes with modern hues and textures.

This year, the royal is photographed wearing a deep purple traditional dress and sheer headscarf by local brand Bthaina, featuring gold geometric embellishments all over. The portrait is particularly special as it sees the First Lady wearing not one, but two statement jewelry pieces, in the form of a gleaming gold headpiece and a long necklace with large coins. A quick look at the royal’s past portraits would show that she typically keeps the accessories to a minimum, which makes the additional bling in the portrait that much more remarkable. The last time the world got a peek into the royal’s exquisite traditional jewelry collection was when she sported gold earrings with an oversized pair of bangles in January 2024, on the third anniversary of Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s accession to the throne.

The First Lady of Oman does not shy from bold sartorial statements while staying true to Omani heritage, and often enlists designer Amal Al Raisi for custom pieces. “Sayyida Ahad has been a loyal client of mine for many years now and has only ever treated me with kindness and respect,” Al Raisi previously shared with Vogue Arabia. “It was an honor to be given the opportunity to closely collaborate with the Sayyida on this special occasion. It was a very humbling and rewarding experience, she has a real eye for design and beauty, making it a very smooth process.”
