“I wanted to create jewelry that reminded people of their childhood,” says Copenhagen-based designer Tina Mønster of her eponymous launch of fine jewelry pieces. “I thought about growing up in Canada and playing in the forest. Running around and feeling the whimsical and magical beauty of the world while being completely carefree. I wanted to bring back that same feeling inside myself and evoke it in others.” Mønster, who is expecting her first child, adds, “I think we all deserve to feel the deepest part of our spirits. As children, we play and adorn ourselves with the magic we find around us without a second thought.”

The new label is a significant departure from her first line, Sloan Sable, and confirms the creative range of its designer. While Sloan Sable jewelry features statement pieces void of embellishment and with a focus on organic lines and links, Tina Mønster Jewellery is evocative for its ethereal flashes of color, minutely carved details in precious metals, and endless stackable styling options.

“I think it’s fun to be able to give adults the chance to feel like princes, princesses, warriors, Amazonians, super heroes, whoever we can dream up. I think you can feel that way by allowing yourself to add a bit of fantasy to your life through jewelry,” says Mønster. As a teenager, growing up in a small, rural town in Canada, she worked in her father’s garage restoring classic automobiles. “I found comfort in metalwork,” she says. She went on to earn a master’s degree from London College of Fashion, took stone setting courses at l’École Van Cleef & Arpels in Paris, detailing workshops with Maison Lesage, and studied under the Kering Group on sustainable methods of practice.

Sustainability is central to Mønster’s work ethic. Her jewelry is produced in Denmark and England due to both countries maintaining strict labor and environmental laws, while all the gemstones and precious metals are sustainably sourced.
