Word from the Resort 2017 Collections: Suit Up

As the Resort 2017 collections’ imagery and lookbooks trickled onto the fashion news wires, it took a mere moment to see one trend cement loud and clear: women’s suits are back with aplomb. The old saying in the industry goes that ‘three makes a trend’, but here we have an outbreak of several brands integrating statement suits into the Resort ranges.

Céline played with extreme proportions of the suit, zoning in on a slim waistline but off-set by voluminous, louche trousers tapered with a languid belt. Balmain went on a nostalgic reverie for ‘70s glamazon women with its cut-out shoulder white suit (perfect for dinner on a balmy eve), and Rachel Comey took to enlarged sleeves with drawstring ties. Last night at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Gala in NYC, Solange Knowles scored a style homerun in a metallic Off-White suit, confirming that the two-piece is officially du jour.

The pre-collections are a solid barometer for what is actually selling from major fashion houses, partly because these lines remain in stores longer than the main seasonal drop, and they are typically more wearable. Resort and pre-fall offer the designer a space to expand on an idea that gained traction; this is why you’ll see the likes of Christopher Kane taking a shift dress from his mainline, and rolling it out in multiple manifestations in his pre-collection lines. This season, the collective consciousness means business, and looks to the suit.

Vogue Arabia looks to the Resort 2017 collections that offer suitably pitch-perfect tailoring for the modern woman who needs her threads to have style mileage.
