The self-proclaimed ‘Fashion Killa’, A$AP Rocky, has played a big part in the fashion industry for a few years now, often spotted sitting front row at Dior and Gucci. In 2016 he was featured in Forbes magazine’s “30 Under 30,” being branded hip hop’s new fashion mogul. There is no doubt that what Rocky says has a big influence – back in 2014, he released the track “Multiply,” rapping about how he is no longer a fan of the streetwear brand Hood By Air. Claiming he was the one who helped pioneer the brand, he felt he did not get the credit he deserved. Within hours, the lyrics led to multiple fans selling their HBA clothing on eBay, highlighting the influence Rocky has when it comes to fashion.
As is evident from his song lyrics and Instagram pictures, some of Rocky’s favorite brands include Goyard, Dior, Gucci and, most prominently, Raf Simons. On Monday, the Harlem-born rapper released new song “Raf,” featuring Frank Ocean, Playboi Carti, Lil Uzi Vert, and Quavo. A$AP Rocky has long been vocal about his love for the work of Raf Simons. Having name-dropped the designer in various songs, as well as taking to Twitter proclaiming Raf as a “fashion god” it was just a matter of time before he paid homage to the Belgian fashion designer with a song.
Over the past years, Rocky has done his fair share of work in the fashion world – after having modeled for DKNY and becoming the face of Dior Homme, he teamed up with J.W. Anderson for a collaboration called JWA x AWGE. He also recently released a second collaboration with Guess for Summer 2017.
