Born and raised in Kuwait, Farah AlMesbah grew up alongside her mother, sitting by her at her sewing machine observing her making her own clothes, surrounded by patterns and fashion magazines. “She taught me how to sketch and express myself freely through drawing,” recalls AlMesbah. “My mother prepared me to become the designer I am today.”
The artist in the classroom, she would express herself through music, sketches, and dressing up. Watching Disney movies, her mind explored the world of fantasy. “I always felt a push to look beyond reality,” she says. In London, her preconceived notions that fashion was unreachable shifted as she met young, niche designers, and started to explore her own hand at design. “When I showed the result to my mother, she was so positively impressed. At that moment, I understood that fashion was all I wanted to do in life, and I began the path that led me to my fashion career.”
After graduating from the London College of Fashion, she embarked on launching her namesake brand that would speak to the likes of customers Lulwa AlAslawi, Laila Abdalla, and Dana AlTuwarish. Her dresses are cut to couture effect with details that remain in the memory long after the evening is over. “If I had to pick my signature piece, it is a pantsuit inspired by 18th century fashion. Available in long and short versions, it emphasizes the waistline and makes it look very tiny, then opens at the hips, following the typical glass hour shape, and culminates in structured pants that run loosely on the legs along a rather geometric line. Elegant and daring, feminine and masculine at once.”
