Exclusive: Prada Revisits An Iconic Era With the Making of the New Moon Bag

Prada‘s Moon Bag has become a favorite for this season after being spotted at fashion weeks around the world, and on the arms of celebrities like Hunter Schafer. It’s no surprise that this rendition of the iconic 2000s model has become such an instant success — after all, there’s nothing the fashion world loves more than Y2k inspiration right now.

Designed by Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons, the all-new Moon bag is part of the Spring/Summer 2023 collection and is being hailed as a must-have accessory for the summer. Taking inspiration from multiple, distant worlds the bag is an amalgamation of Prada’s past, present, and future as it merges a sense of nostalgia for the beginning of the 21st century with a contemporary attitude.

Elements such as the large metal buckle in the center are reminiscent of the earliest iteration of the model in the Spring/Summer 2002 collection. The bag also comes adorned with the famous enameled metal triangle logo, along with other instantly recognizable details such as the signature grommet presented in a metal version with a silver finish.

The unmistakable Nappa leather brings the bag into the contemporary and accentuates its lightness after a special treatment that gives it a slightly padded appearance.  This fresh interpretation is enhanced by a curved silhouette and an imposing form available in four versions – light blue, cedar, geranium, and mango. Structured top handles, a removable strap, and the ton sur ton keyring complete this monochromatic creation.
