Everything You Need to Know About Elie Saab Spring 2019 Couture

On Wednesday, Elie Saab presented his eponymous label’s Spring 2019 Couture collection in Paris. Read on for everything you need to know about the show.

#1. The couturier drew inspiration from the underwater flora of the Caribbean
“Every piece is like an ode to the magical lifeforms that animate the depths,” read the show notes. This translated into a beautiful lineup of evening-wear in a vibrant color palette of pink, red, blue, and sand. Luxurious fabrics like organza, tulle, satin duchesse, and taffeta were layered to take the form of currents and coral reefs. The collection, entitled “Vida Paraíso”, was punctuated with pieces meant to evoke an “island lifestyle”, such as form-fitting mermaid dresses with cut-out details and embroidered bodysuits with long, floor-trailing capes.

#2. There was a star-studded front row, of course
A-list clients, editors, and models came out in full force to support the beloved Lebanese couturier. Stars spotted on the front row included Olivia Palermo, Fajer Fahad, and Camila Coelho. Also among the FROW guests were style bloggers Karen Wazen B, Lana El Sahely, and Negin Mirsalehi.

#3. The beauty look was clean and sleek
Hair and makeup was breathtakingly minimal in contrast to the glitz and glamour of the clothes. To coincide with the show’s theme, models’ hair was saturated to create a wet look, then slicked back drawing further attention to the sparkling bijoux that decorated the ears. As for the makeup, clean, radiant skin was anchored by bold eyebrows, and soft, smoked out lids.

#4. Accessories made a splash
The accessories that accompanied the clothing were just as striking. Think: Oversized sunglasses in blue, purple, green, and red hues, gilded waist-defining belts worn with show-stopping gowns, fishnet-inspired chains, and aquatic-stone earrings.

#5. Here comes the bride
As is customary, the final look was one for the brides: an embroidered, champagne-colored creation replete with a billowing skirt and twinkling, jewel-like appliqués. The crystal-encrusted tulle frock was worn with a floor-skimming, jewel-encrusted veil that trailed beautifully down the runway.
