The fashion desk has witnessed the rise and rise of Emirati designer Madiyah Al Sharqi and her namesake label from Dubai-based boutique brand to a globally renowned label with an impressive roster of A-list clientele. The designer has a list of followers from the Middle East to LA and London and can name Dana Hourani, Lana El Sahely, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Sofia Richie as fans. Al Sharqi’s list of stockists also shows her brand’s sphere of influence, including The Modist, Bahrain’s Saks Fifth Avenue, Rubaiyat in Jeddah, Harvey Nichols online, Five Story in New York, Mercer by Edith in Paris, and G&B Negozio in Flero, Italy. The label’s contemporary key pieces for every woman certainly have global reach. “Women navigate differently through fashion now,” Al Sharqi tells Vogue Arabia. “We’re always on the pulse of the latest things online so having connections through e-commerce is essential today.”

From its launch in 2012 with swathes of lace eveningwear, to today’s gingham-clad, fluffy outerwear that channels a streamlined silhouette for Fall 2017, the designer has chosen to make sartorial statements in her fabric choices and unexpected tailoring rather than opt for high doses of detailing. “Good style can be wearing simple silhouettes with unconventional details coupled with defining accessories and, more importantly, an unapologetic, go-getter attitude,” adds Al Sharqi.

For Fall 2017, the new collection highlights a capsule of different coats that will see every woman through the colder season – from dashes to the Big Apple or European vacations, to stylish robes to enjoy breezy Middle East evenings. “The best thing about having a statement jacket is getting away with a simple look underneath. It instantly steps it up,” Al Sharqi tells Vogue Arabia.  “The key is to invest in a piece in a luxurious fabric in a strong color, slightly oversized.”

Here, the fashion desk highlights the Al Sharqi way to keeping out the cold – after all, it’s not chic to shiver.
