Elie Saab is a bonafide king of the red carpet. The Lebanese couturier, who launched his eveningwear label in his native country in 1998, quickly went on to garner a client list that most designers can only dream of dressing. Everyone from HM Queen Rania to Sherihan and Sandra Bullock have sported Saab’s fairytale creations for special occasions, be it at a film premiere or a coronation. But for his latest Resort 2019 collection, the famed designer aims to slightly veer away from the red carpet and onto the narrow, cobblestoned streets of Saint Tropez.
Presented in his gilded Paris showroom, the new offering has all of the elements of signature Elie Saab creations such as intricately embroidered fabrics, albeit a touch more relaxed. Yes, there were A-line dresses decorated with plastic red poppies and white daisies and dazzling sequin-laden gowns that will undoubtedly costume our region’s women for garden parties and outdoor weddings all summer long — it is Elie Saab after all — but there were plenty of everyday looks mixed into the collection too. This translated into crisp denim jeans, jackets, and jumpsuits, wide-leg trousers, and blazers that can be worn on repeat.
Also in the collection is a line-up of black-and-white dresses in broderie anglaise, flower-embroidered sequin bombers, short suede dresses and jackets with fringe detailing, leopard-print overlays, silk scarves, and gingham skirts that would transition beautifully from a private jet to a sun-drenched suite or a seaside retreat.
