The center of fashion’s gravity is certainly fixed on next-gen “real people” and models with a self-made social buzz who champion individuality. Cue Dolce & Gabbana’s Fall 2017 Men’s show, which took place on Saturday January 14 at the Metropol in Milan. The collection served as a modeling 101 masterclass on tomorrow’s runway roll call; it wasn’t constrained to just a portfolio of new male models, either.
The Italian fashion house cast names with a strong portfolio of loyal social followers across all elite walks of life. Snapchatting their way to the top, 49 millennial models showcased the collection of militia-inspired bombers and morning coats, launching #DGMillennials with aplomb. Within the roster of rock royalty offspring and rising stars, social entrepreneur Cameron Dallas made his runway debut in a slick tux, closing the show flanked by the swarm of social stars.
Joining ranks with the boys, Lionel Richie’s daughter Sofia Richie, Pyper America Smith (The Atomics band girl), and German blogger Stefanie Giesinger (who has 2.4 million Instagram followers) showcased lingerie deftly styled with oversized coats, alongside nine other female models with a strong social star-pulling power.
British rapper Tinie Tempah (who launched his What We Wear fashion brand at London’s Men’s Collections last week), actor Avan Jogia, and Chinese star Chen Xuedong all took the runway Richter scale buzz to high octane.
Co-creatives Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana cherry-picked the model lineup, asking each millennial to choose and style their own runway look for a next-level customization and collaboration campaign. With 112 looks shown across the roster of achingly cool talent, the Dolce & Gabbana global family just got a little bit bigger.
