In what feels like a blink of an eye, summer is officially here and with its arrival comes wistful daydreams of European holidays in the sun. While we eagerly await the green light for international travel to begin once again, French luxury label Dior and Italian scooter brand Vespa recently announced an exclusive collaboration that will make future vacations exploring charming far-off destinations that much more exciting.

The surprise partnership between the two heritage houses reveals a limited-edition Vespa reimagined with Dior’s iconic Oblique motif and bronze-gold detailing on a creamy beige finish—the quintessential mode of transport to scoop up a gelato, race through picturesque plazas, or reenact any of our other Roman Holiday fantasies à la Audrey Hepburn. Along with the scooter, a matching line of signature navy accessories will complement the highly-anticipated release, from a helmet emblazoned with the same emblematic pattern to a top case ideal for a weekend getaway that perfectly fixes to the bike’s luggage rack.

Uniting the Parisian joie de vivre with the Italian la dolce vita mentalities of experiencing life, the Vespa 946 Christian Dior is a retro-inspired dream embued with the nostalgia of summer romance and wanderlust, characterizing this “spirit of freedom, movement, and expression” that has been rooted in the creative DNA of both brands since their coincidental individual beginnings in 1946.

Designed by Dior womenswear creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri, the contemporary version of the Vespa 946 scooter originally released in 2012 is also a symbol of the successful harmony between the celebrated designer’s Italian heritage and her groundbreaking tenure at the storied maison. “For me, Vespa is linked to my city, Rome,” commented Chiuri. “I have so many happy memories starring a Vespa. It’s how my husband and I used to get around Rome and go to the seaside in Fregene. It’s a symbol of Italian-ness that is intricately linked to my personal history, and it’s now part of my professional life at Dior.”

This special-edition two-wheeler will debut in Dior boutiques around the world as well as select Piaggio Group’s Motoplex locations in spring 2021 while the collection of accessories will be available exclusively at Dior—just in time for a chic summer escape.
