5 Things to Know Ahead of Dior Resort 2018

The house of Dior is unveiling its Resort 2018 collection on Friday 6am Dubai/5 am Saudi Arabia time. Here are five things to know ahead of the highly-anticipated show:

1. It’s Maria Grazia Chiuri’s first Resort show for Dior
Maria Grazia Chiuri took over the reigns as Creative Director of Dior in November, becoming the first woman to lead the storied French house in its 69-year history. She debuted her first collection for the brand during Spring 2017 fashion week in Paris. She went on to present her first Haute Couture collection for Spring 2017, and tomorrow, will make her Resort debut as the house’s Creative Director.

2. The show is being held in Santa Monica, California
Following its previous Resort show at the Blenheim Palace in London, Dior is heading to California to present its Resort ‘18 collection. The event will take place near Los Angeles at the Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space Preserve. “I was about to find a less unknown world: California. Was it not the earthly paradise of which all Americans and so many Europeans dreamed? A year-round climate, an ever-shining sun, a bounty of fruit trees and flowers, large beaches lapped by the Pacific waves. In short, a super-Riviera!” Monsieur Dior once said.

3. The setting spans 3000 acres
The national reserve spans nearly 3000 acres, and was once the home of the Chumash Native American tribe. Today, it’s lush, hilly trails are used for hiking, walking, mountain biking, horse riding, and hosting fashion shows— a first for the open air canyon.

4. You might catch A$AP Rocky and Rihanna on the FROW
Dior is known to have star-studded front rows every season, and Resort is no exception. Expect to see familiar Dior brand ambassadors like Jennifer Lawrence and Marion Cotillard, as well as new faces such as A$AP Rocky, Rihanna and Rami Malek.

5. The inspiration leans towards flora and fauna themes…
If Instagram is any indication. The house of Dior took to its social media page to share videos and pictures of cactuses, palm trees, sand dunes and horned desert lizards, suggesting that the collection draws inspiration from flora and fauna. Under the helm of Chiuri, one can expect feminine and romantic silhouettes.
