Dior is Set to Touch Down in Dubai For a Fashion Show

Shortly after showcasing its circus-themed Spring 2019 couture show in Paris last month, Dior is set to present its newest offering in the presence of editors, buyers, brand loyalists, and fashion enthusiasts for the first time in the Middle East. The runway show will unfold in Dubai on March 18, with special looks exclusively created by the storied Parisian maison’s artistic director Maria Grazia Chiuri. The exact location is still to be confirmed, however, if Paris’s showcase is any indication, the hotly-anticipated forthcoming show will undoubtedly be a spectacle.

For Dior’s Spring 2019 Couture show in the French capital, Chiuri transformed the Musée Rodin into a literal circus, complete with a big top lined with strings of lights, a rainbow-tile runway, and female acrobats. The runway presentation kicked off with London’s all-women troupe of circus acrobats carrying one another down the runway on their backs, shoulders, and even upside down, setting the stage for the dramatic playsuits, mini skirts, three-piece suits, and floor-length, golden dresses decorated with flame silhouettes—a literal reference to jumping through fire that followed.

Of course, Dior wouldn’t be the first prestigious fashion house to present runway collections in the Middle East. In October, Dolce & Gabbana staged an epic Day & Night fashion show in the Dubai Mall’s Fashion Avenue, in celebration of the brand’s flagship Middle East boutique, which opened earlier in 2018. The runway included clothing designed specifically for city’s boutique, so the FROW was able to buy the look in real-time. Meanwhile, in 2014, Karl Lagerfeld held Chanel’s Resort 2015 show on The Island in Dubai.
