You’d have been forgiven for thinking you were at a performance of Swan Lake, as Georges Hobeika lit up the runway with a magical smattering of sequins at Couture Week. The Lebanese designer presented his Fall 2018 couture collection on Monday in Paris, with models including Cindy Bruna parading out exquisite gowns dripping in multihued feathers, crystal beading, and romantic tulle. The maison took inspiration from the classic ballet for the enchanting collection, which emulated the grace and poise of a dancer with its ultra-fluid silhouettes and sculpted tailoring.

Creamy ivories, warm champagnes, and crisp whites cut through the collection, giving the line an icy coolness complemented by a rich touch of dark amethysts and navies. While still elegant and light, a refined use of velvets, feathers, and embellishments lent an autumnal feel, echoing Swan Lake‘s fusion of effervesce and darkness. Fringed minis, gem-encrusted jumpsuits, and asymmetric peplums lent a certain playfulness, while delicate floral embroidery and a swan motif or two further enhanced the collection’s theme. A plethora of caped shoulders, tutu-like pleating, and graphic beading further upped the theatrical ante, which peaked with the show’s stand-out look.

With a layered, mermaid, skirt and embellished, illusion bodice, Hobeika’s bridal gown left show-goers in a captivated state of awe as it swept down the runway. The fairytale design was embroidered with crystals and feathers, and accentuated with a tulle veil and crystal headband. The handmade headpiece featured hand-sketched, Lebanese organic gypsophila leaves, embellished with Swarovski crystal baguettes. Left to float ethereally around the model’s crown, the piece was truly the icing on the couture cake.
