Daneh Looks Back to the Icons of the Seventies for Resort 2019

It was an era defined by famous faces such as Bianca Jagger, Stevie Nicks, Jacqueline Bisset, and Faye Dunaway, whose inimitable style is still referenced by modern-day icons. Case in point: Daneh Buahamd, who has taken inspiration from the greatest sartorial stars of the Seventies for her eponymous label’s Resort 2019 collection.

The Dubai-based Saudi designer looked to such sartorial legends as they moved from the 70s into the 80s for Daneh’s latest offerings, while also taking style clues from her own family, including her sisters, aunts, and cousins, during the decades. The result encompasses both bold power suiting and high-octane gowns run through with disco-worthy metallics. A ruched midi fuses the best of the era with a contemporary, fluid silhouette, draped, tulle shirtdresses transcend seasons and occasions, while the label’s signature, relaxed thobe jumpsuit is reimagined in a muted, shimmering silver.

“It is the culmination of those amazing gatherings that I witnessed in my childhood,” says Buahamd of the collection. “The mélange of styles introduced to me by the strong women of different ages who surrounded me from my sisters, aunts, and cousins’ glamorous looks of that era with the disco and Studio 54-inspired outfits to the elderly women’s elegance in their tulle overdresses.”
