Chanel

Karl Lagerfeld‘s Fall 2018 collection was an ode to Paris, the city he and his cat, Choupette, have called home for many, many years (Lagerfeld moved to the French capital when he was 18). Models, including show closer Adut Akech (who became the second black model to close a Chanel show), strutted past iconic Parisian landmarks (Institut de France!) and bookstalls that line the River Seine wearing dreamy, mostly grey, couture creations. The star-studded front row included Penelope Cruz (the new face of the maison), Tracee Ellis Ross, Pharrell Williams, Vanessa Paradis, and Lily-Rose Depp. The offering, entitled “High Profile”, was punctuated with long, tweed skirts that zipped to the thigh to reveal embroidered mini skirts underneath, black velvet coats, sequined gowns, and black ankle boots.

When it came to the hair and makeup, hairstylist Sam McKnight created faux pompadours in front with a swingy ponytail in the back. For the makeup, Tom Pecheux dipped his brushes into pots of shimmery green eyeshadow to paint models’ lids. To complete the dramatic look, he pressed a fingerprint of gold glitter along the inner corners and beneath the waterlines. Moroccan-British model and Vogue Arabia December cover star Nora Attal was among the models who walked the show.

Armani Privé

After years of presenting his Armani Privé collections in a hall at the Palais de Chaillo, Giorgio Armani decided to relocate the brand’s Fall 2018 show to Paris’s Italian embassy. Models — including Maria Borges and Cindy Bruna, to name a few — emerged on the runway wearing black and champagne-hued pantsuits, streamlined blazers, velvet eveningwear, and beautifully cut pants that will undoubtedly costume upcoming red carpet events and film premieres.

But it didn’t end there. The nearly 100-look collection was not short on fairytale gowns either. In addition to showcasing a beautiful line-up of silk separates and suits, the offering was also punctuated with floor-trailing gowns in vibrant shades of hot pink and electric blue as well as bold, pink-dyed ostrich feather capes.

Alexandre Vauthier

Alexandre Vauthier presented its Fall 2018 Couture collection in Paris on Tuesday, with the glamorous, Parisian-inspired offering displaying after-dark dressing at its finest. Featuring everything from pleats and tiger prints to French boater hats, crystal embroidery, and lace, the collection was the very definition of haute couture to the core.

In fact, not a single sneaker or flat shoe was present during the show. Instead, the French designer teamed up with Jordanian footwear designer Amina Muaddi to dream up a series of thigh-high boots and Swarovski-crystal embellished sandals worn with single-sleeved, body-hugging evening dresses with open backs, bolero jackets, and short-in-front-long-in-back skirts. A highlight: The black, completely feathered minidress that looked like an explosion of plumes.

Stéphane Rolland

Stéphane Rolland booked out one of the halls of Radio France to set the stage for the brand’s Fall 2018 Couture collection. Models marched to a live soundtrack provided by six percussionists positioned above the stage, wearing fluid, Renaissance-style ballgowns that added to the theatrics. But not all were complete wth billowing sleeves and floral embroidery. In between the drama was a line-up of camel-colored, utilitarian tuxedo coat-dresses, creamy cashmere sweaters, and leather, trackpant-esque trousers and boiler suits.

Ulyana Sergeenko

Russian fashion designer Ulyana Sergeenko presented her Fall 2018 Couture collection in Paris’s Russian embassy. The runway was completely silent save for the voices of the former First Lady Michelle Obama, the late Princess Diana, and Mother Teresa speaking about respect and women’s rights. The ultra-feminine 35-look collection featured layered, tulle dresses, tie-dye skirts, and car coats that came in a romantic and muted color palette of red, blush, mint, and eggshell blue. Floral embroidery was ever so present throughout the offering, while furry headwear made for a statement touch. One of the dresses, a blue, layered princess-worthy ballgown with long, ruffled sleeves, was previously sported by Russian supermodel Natalia Vodianova during the FIFA 2018 World Cup in Moscow.
