“With every collection, I want to showcase something from my country. Oman is so peaceful. If I am able to create freely, it is thanks to my nation,” said Amal Al Raisi backstage after her Paris Fashion Week debut at the Plaza Athénée. Her showcase was part of a wider International Fashion Summit intended to increase opportunities for curated designers showcasing in Paris for the first time.
For Spring 2018, Al Raisi featured sweeping looks in lavender, a hue chosen for its soothing nature. The collection’s primary inspiration stems from a rose offered to the Sultan of Oman, Qaboos bin Said al Said, in 1990 by the World Rose Society in the Netherlands for his contribution to international peace and humanitarian efforts.
The loose, feminine silhouettes featured delicate draping and pleated georgette, lace, and intricate hand beading, created by Al Raisi’s atelier of craftsmen in Oman. The label, which was featured as one of Suzy Menkes‘ highlights at the Condé Nast International conference in Oman this past year and last showed in Torino, has a growing following of ladies who look for a couture-like wardrobe of occasion dresses and separates with a graceful and modest style.
