Zuhair Murad has scored another sartorial goal, dressing opera singer Aida Garifullina for not one, but two of the star’s most prominent performances. The Russian soprano donned a white, crystal-embellished gown by the Lebanese couturier as she sang at the World Cup 2018 opening ceremony alongside British pop star Robbie Williams last week, and now she has turned to Murad again.
The singer thrilled audiences with her harmonies in Moscow’s Red Square this week, but her fairytale, off-shoulder gown was equally as mesmerizing. The champagne-hued creation, which comes from the Ras Baalbek-born designer’s Spring 2018 couture collection, glimmered as bright as the night’s sky under the stage lights. Garifullina accessorized the floor-sweeping gown with Bvlgari jewels and Aquazzura heels for a truly A-list finish.
“Aida Garifullina blows us all away with her magical voice and her enchanting appearance on stage,” Murad told his 4.5 million Instagram followers, as he shared a clip of her performance. The opera star revealed on her own social media page that it was “an honor” to perform at the “amazing concert”. Garifullina also donned the gown earlier this month to break the news she would be performing at the World Cup opening ceremony. “The news is finally out, I’m so excited to announce I’ll be performing with Robbie Williams at the FIFA World Cup opening ceremony on Thursday,” said an excited Garifullina.
Her opening ceremony outfit was was custom-created by Murad, who in the past has dressed Adele, Jennifer Lopez, and Céline Dion, for special stage performances. In turn, Garifullina has a well-documented track record of favoring looks by Lebanese designers, having previously worn creations by Saiid Kobeisy and Elie Saab, to name but a few.
