This summer, football fans can truly wear their heart on their sleeve – and in their own way. Nike is paying a sartorial homage to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with its new Football Federation 2018 collection, a versatile line that honors the country’s vast achievements and overwhelming sense of national pride. However, it offers more than just a sports-luxe edge to your wardrobe, as Saudi trailblazers Raha Moharrak and Ghalia Mahmoudi demonstrate.
“I wear my jersey with a smile and lots of pride,” says Jeddah-born Moharrak, who broke barriers in 2013 when she became the first Saudi woman and youngest Arab to climb Mount Everest. “As a sports fanatic, it means the world to me to see green and white being represented on the world stage. I have never been this proud to call myself Saudi, with all the changes that have happened in the last few months. I can’t believe I am living the dreams that I’ve always aspired to come true.”
The mountaineer recommends styling Nike’s collection with self-confidence, adding “be original, and be who you are”. “I don’t like to follow anyone in my style, so I try to mix things up to stay original and comfortable.” Fashion blogger Mahmoudi also advises shaking up the sporty jersey by pairing it with a skirt. “It makes it feel so special,” she says, reveling in the fact that Saudi women can wear a piece commemorating their home kingdom.
The collection is available in Nike stores across Saudi Arabia.
