Vogue speaks to the designer and muse about the collaboration and shoot that took place in Dubai, and explores how the collection adds to the on-going cultural dialogue within the modest movement.

The collection is titled ‘A Middle Eastern Love Story’ and naturally the team took to the Dubai desert to contrast the collection’s color palette of bronze, silver, blush, and oyster. “The shoot was magical and I am extremely happy with the finished images,” founding designer Linda Bruun Lacin exclusively tells Vogue. “It was super fun to work with a Scandinavian brand based in Dubai,” Teisbaek tells Vogue. “I had such a fun experience shooting with the team in the desert in Dubai.” Seemingly endless sand dunes proved to be the perfect foil for the new Fall 2018 collection. The hero product is easy to identify – the satin trench-meets-dress is super tactile and stands out for being so understatedly elegant. Then there’s the long-line tunic with daredevil splits up the sides that make way for loosely-tailored trousers. These subtle designs exude presence in a way that will rally customers from fashion’s introverts and extroverts alike. Pernille’s effortless cool just drafts it all together nicely for customers East and West.

“I chose Pernille as she is the ultimate Scandinavian it girl and style icon,” Bruun tells Vogue. “So the concept was to take this icon of Scandi style and place her right in the middle of the desert, wearing modest pieces which she styled in her own way. My brand is all about fusing my Scandi background with elements from the Middle East (which I have called home for 8 years now). My collections are suitable for both markets and I feel Pernille was the perfect choice to tie the two together.”

Originally from Denmark, Lacin relocated to Dubai to pursue her styling career and launched her own label December Nineteen in the Spring 2018 season. Not only does the brand tap into the universally appealing conservative dress code that can transition between modest dressing for the Muslim market, it also appeals to style aficionados who like to cut a more fluid silhouette with their threads. “It’s about taking a modern abaya or kaftan with a clean and simple silhouette in very dusty and subtle colors and turning it into a dress or a multifunctional sheila,” adds Bruun. “Focusing on Scandinavian minimalism mixed with high quality fabrics makes the product long lasting and sustainable,” adds Pernille. “Having that mindset while incorporating modest silhouettes makes modest dressing universal as quality always speaks for itself.”

The A Middle Eastern Love Story collection will be available from June 19th online and throughout select stockists in the Middle East.
