Daniel Del Core started his eponymous fashion label in 2019 and since then it has been triumph after triumph for the creative designer. In December, he made waves in the industry as he opened his beautiful flagship store in London’s most prestigious spot, New Bond Street. There his conceptual pieces sit, ready for special client briefs and spectacular red-carpet moments. After catching up with the German-born designer to discuss his new collection, he opened up about the moment he decided to start Del Core, “It was while I was working with Gucci, I had autonomy and I loved that, at a point Alessandro let me create what I wanted and then we would develop the dresses together, it was amazing but there came a certain point when I realised, I wanted to live my life differently.” The down-to-earth designer travels far and wide to tune out of the day-to-day and connect with nature. From the Iceland Glaciers to Alaska, Del Core travels to gain perspective and develop his design process. The young designer’s collections are other-worldly and the relationship to nature is lived first-hand. His adventures create perspective in his work and visual grandeur that is poetic. A refreshing take on ready-to-wear, he is now preparing to show in Milan tomorrow, and we anticipate more magic from the designer.
Vogue Arabia had the pleasure of attending the Del Core store opening in London in December. The house has a conceptual feeling, with some artistic notes. the boutique has been conceived by Daniel Del Core as a spatial extension of the house’s core principles. A merging of the natural and the man-made creates a sense of wonder, in fluid harmony. We anticipate more stores opening around the world as the creative director grows rapidly into an industry that needs both his vision and a breath of fresh air. While talking with the Milan-based designer, we discussed his childhood and how it impacted his artistry, “My father was a comedian and there is a creative part of my father in me also, Germany was a wonderful place to grow up and I was always surrounded by nature, we were always camping and outside.” It was this environment that nurtured his talents for design, “since I could draw, I was always sketching, I loved Sci-Fi movies, I was always making wooden sculptures, I loved painting, it was a lot of work with my hands.” He refers to the fashion industry as somewhat alien to him at a time, when he grew up, he focused on art and making pieces that connected him to the creative process. “My Grandfather was Italian, I could not speak the language and I really wanted to learn, so, I went to Italy, and I never moved back.” Studying ceramics and sculpture and becoming obsessed with the idea of creating something of his own became the creative director’s fascination while he lived in Italy.
The milestone of having a flagship store in London has been somewhat of a dream for the fledgling creative as he reflects on the brand being only four years old, “I studied all these designs for so long, and seeing my visions come together is important to me, London is vital for me as I feel I want a lot of young designers to understand there is so much possibility here.” The craft maker’s ability to see beyond the limitations and rigidness of fashion is what has differentiated him as an artist. His show will be held tomorrow at 3pm CET. It will take place at Triennale Milano, Viale Emilio Alemagna 6, Milan.
