In this short film for Vogue Arabia by influential fashion photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, and starring Taylor Hill and Yasmin Wijnaldum, the duo interprets “a richly cultured world in which controlled abandonment is the epitome of chic.” This notion is brought to life with Hill and Wijnaldum—choreographed by American dancer Stephen Galloway—writhing in front of a backdrop of red satin couches and slithering underwater sea creatures. The film reverberates dark glamor, while a galloping suspense builds in anticipation of what is to come. Here, the Vogue Arabia woman embraces her heightened metamorphosis; she is on the move.
“We hope that Vogue Arabia will lead the way to self-expression, inspiration, and glorification of the fantastic women of the Arab world,” state Inez and Vinoodh. The photographers are perhaps fashion’s most influential image-makers today; the duo has been creating edgy images for almost three decades.
