Today, Karl Lagerfeld presented his latest Spring 2017 Haute Couture collection for Chanel during Paris Fashion Week. Taking place at the Grand Palais, the venue was transformed with glittering paneled mirrors, referencing Coco Chanel’s atelier staircase. The front row was dotted with celebrities including Vanessa Paradis, Caroline de Maigret, and British actress Ellie Bamber.
Arizona Muse opened the show in a mint green tweed skirt suit, complete with a pussy bow shirt and silver belt. The square-buckle accessory dominated the offering, nipped at the waist on tea-length, voluminous dresses, column gowns, and sculptural padded-hip coats. Resting on the rib cage, the proportion drew inspiration from a sculpture titled “Spoon Woman” by Swiss Surrealist artist Alberto Giacometti, who is known for his elongated representation of the human form.
Silver pumps ruled the runway. The offering also served up a mix of feather-trimmed, sequin-laden dresses, pastel skirt suits, and plunging silhouettes. Accompanying the metallic footwear, pearl anklets adorned the garments of nearly every model on the catwalk. Meanwhile, boater hats styled slanted back further emphasized the collection’s retro aesthetic.
On the catwalk, Lagerfeld’s model muses, including Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Lindsey Wixson, and Soo Joo Park joined forces with model of the moment Yasmin Wijnaldum, Selena Forrest, and Vittoria Ceretti. Lily-Rose Depp closed the show in a dramatic pink bridal gown. Like all the pieces in the collection, the fluffy silhouette with ethereal mille-feuille ruffles featured a coordinating belt.
