7 of the Most Spectacular Destinations Chanel Has Held a Cruise Show In

Unexpected settings, stunning designs, and a star-studded front row—the Chanel Cruise show as we know it today has set a benchmark for itself over the years. Long before it was a highly-awaited fixture on the global fashion calendar, the French fashion house held some of its earliest Cruise shows at hotels and resort towns along the French Riviera and the Mediterranean coast. In the past decades, it has invited jet setters, clients, and editors to unconventional destinations, transforming entire spaces into magnificent runways upon which supermodels reveal the latest creations, and further cemented the power of fashion to make one dream. Now, the fashion giant is back with yet another exciting showcase, which will take place in Los Angeles tonight. As the world gears up for yet another spectacular show, Vogue Arabia is highlighting all the gorgeous spots where Chanel has presented its Cruise lines.

Below, check out some of the most spectacular Chanel Cruise show locations over the years.

Los Angeles, USA

Chanel is revisiting the City of Angels after Karl Lagerfeld staged his Cruise 2008 collection in a Santa Monica hangar, and many years after Coco Chanel visited LA in 1931 for the first time. Back then, she’d been invited by producer Samuel Goldwyn who requested her to dress Hollywood actresses, a significant moment that must be highlighted as the collection showcases on May 9 at 7:30pm (May 10 at 6:30am GST).

Chanel has transformed the iconic Grand Palais on many occasions for its Cruise shows. In 2018, the pieces were revealed in a set that was designed to look like a Mediterranean villa, and in 2017, the show was set against a backdrop of the Eiffel Tower recreated in miniature form. In 2015, the complex was turned into a colorful, carnival-inspired set, and in 2014, the site was made to look like the house’s atelier to pay tribute to Coco Chanel.

Havana, Cuba

The Chanel Cruise 2017 show at Cuba’s historic Prado promenade was the first major fashion event to be held in Cuba following the normalization of its diplomatic relations with the USA. According to Lagerfeld, the collection was inspired by Cuba’s “cultural richness” while the show was attended by VIPs like Vin Diesel and Gisele Bündchen.
