Everything You Missed From Chanel’s Star-Studded Cruise 2023/24 Showcase in Los Angeles

The location: Paramount Pictures Studios. The theme? All things Hollywood. On May 9, Chanel did what it manages to do year after year: thrill sartorial enthusiasts with a one-of-a-kind showcase that won’t be forgotten anytime soon. After locations like Dubai, Havana and Seoul, the fashion house put its lens on Los Angeles for its Cruise 2023/24 show, which was attended by the likes of Paris Hilton, Marion Cotillard, Lily Collins, Margot Robbie, Cara Delevingne, Kristen Stewart, and even Snoop Dogg (who later performed for the guests).

If the cinema world had ‘An American in Paris’, Chanel used its LA showcase to celebrate the importance of  a Parisian brand in America. Mind you, this show was the brand’s second presentation in the star-studded city, its last one being back in 2007. And from the second guests got a glimpse of the black and white skate park-inspired ramp, it was clear that Chanel + Los Angeles = A match made in heaven.

Kickstarting with the musical score of 1999 blockbuster Cruel Intentions, Chanel’s Cruise 2023/24 show was full of style super hits. On the runway, models told the story of two distinct characters as part of the LA narrative: the skater girl, and the socialite. Lamé creations took centrestage, followed by swim-ready pieces (accessorized to the tee with chunky neck chains, old school leg warmers, and a new star-shaped bag that promises to become a commercial superstar). The quintessential ‘LA It Girl’ — not unlike FROW-er Paris Hilton — found herself in the spotlight too, via Chanel’s unapologetically pink offerings, all paired with generous doses of gold, sparkles, and bejeweled details.

As the show progressed, the fashion house’s classics also made appearances, but with a twist. Trademark tweed appeared in juicy citrus tones, blazers came drenched in sequins, and seemingly sensible heels stepped over to the wild side with in-built lights. Moving from hot pinks and honey golds, the Cruise showcase also referenced one of the dreamiest characteristics of LA — California sunsets — through a palette of handpicked hues, along with knit looks featuring embroidered palm trees. Adding to the vibe? Snoop Dogg’s unmistakable beats, and an array of food trucks offering up scrumptious snacks like falafel. One thing’s for sure: no one hosts a fashion party quite like Chanel.
