The Chanel Cruise 22/23 show in Monaco was somehow something that we’ve missed seeing for a long time now. From the location—Hotel Monte-Carlo Beach—to the dinner venue, to the looks, accessories and styling, the show seemed to be full of symbols. Even the date of the showcase, 05/05/2022, was one to take note of, as it comprises of two of the fashion house’s signature numbers.

The show kicked off with models walking out in Formula 1-style jumpsuits, pristine tennis looks, silk summer dresses that reminded one of the Bal de la Croix-Rouge, holding in their hands bouquets of beautifully crafted silk flowers supplied by Le Marié. For the French Riviera loyals, the show also sent out metallic trousers and gilded tweed jackets.
Among the highlights of the show this season were Chanel’s accessories. From fishnet gloves and gold jewelry, to mini purses on necklaces, white leather tennis racket bags, a minaudière fashioned as a slot machine, and a Formula 1 racing helmet, the show had it all. Every look was a feast for the eyes with a proliferation of textures, layers and impeccable craftsmanship, all topped with statement accessories that are bound to make it to every woman’s wish-list.
To end the special day, Chanel hosted a dinner at Villa La Vigie, the mansion that served as Karl Lagerfeld’s summer house for a decade, in the presence of Her Highness Princess Caroline De Monaco, and her daughter and brand ambassador, Princess Charlotte Casiraghi, who gave an emotional and nostalgic speech reminiscing on the beautiful memories her family shared with Karl in this historical Monegasque landmark.
To sum it up, it truly felt like Karl was there.
