Amid the uncertainty surrounding the future of fashion due to Covid-19, Chanel has announced the launch date of its Cruise 2020/21 collection. Through a post on the French luxury label’s Instagram, Chanel teased the upcoming collection titled ‘Balade en Méditerranée’ which will be unveiled in a digital presentation on June 8 at 12pm Paris time/2pm GST.
Alongside the announcement, Chanel also posted a series of photos that show the collection’s pieces being worked on meticulously by hand; highlighting the excellent craftsmanship which goes into making the designs.
The label initially had planned on making its way to Capri, Italy for its Cruise 2021 show set to take place on May 7. Due to growing concerns of the Covid-19 pandemic in Italy and the rest of the world, the highly-awaited show had to be called off.
“Chanel is closely monitoring the evolution of the Covid-19 coronavirus epidemic in order to ensure the protection of all its teams as well as its partners and customers around the world, and has put in place all the necessary preventive measures in accordance with the recommendation of local and global health authorities,” the label had said in an official statement.
It had also added that Chanel is “examining alternative ways of presenting its collection in Capri at a later date and in a different format.”
The world of fashion has proved time and again how it thrives in adversity, having withstood decades of a turbulent history. Whether it is converting factories to manufacture protection and sanitation equipment, or pushing through to design another collection, it all comes down to the one aspect of fashion which has remained unchanged: Creativity.
