First Gabriela Hearst, Now Gucci – Which Cult Handbag Will Meghan Wear Next?

The most-talked about royal tour of the year has given us plenty of outfits to pore over from the Duchess of Sussex. Has anyone stopped to ask what Prince Harry is wearing? One of the latest new looks from his new bride, who Kensington Palace recently announced he is expecting a child with, signified the months of preparation that precede a 16-day trip in the spotlight. Not only has Meghan’s team been researching the designers that will tick the diplomatic dressing box for her, they have been commissioning custom pieces too.

Meghan embraced the royal fever that had hit Melbourne wearing Australian designer Dion Lee’s “folded sail dress” with asymmetric skirt detail and one lapel. The sleeveless midi style was made upon Meghan’s request after she admired another of Lee’s designs, and of course Lee, who established his eponymous brand in 2010 at the age of 23, was happy to oblige. The dress, which costs from £666 (AED 3,200) and will also come in black, is now available for pre-order on Global.dionlee.com.

“She looks beautiful and we are so grateful for the worldwide exposure she has given the brand,” Lee told Australia’s Herald Sun. With a knack for contemporary tailoring, we wouldn’t be surprised if Sydney-based Lee is called upon again by Meghan over the coming days.

With the diplomatic side of the outfit equation sorted, it was time for Team Meghan to inject some personality. She might only have carried her new Gucci handbag for a blink-and-you’ll miss-it moment upon touching down in the New South Wales state capital, but for fashion magpies this was enough time to identify it. The white mini Sylvie with red-and-blue stripe, chain detail and logo buckle is one of the more discreet styles from creative director Alessandro Michele, but it still packed the sartorial punch she was looking for. At £1,510 (AED 7,250), it is priced just under the £1,695 (AED 8,140) Gabriela Hearst Demi satin tote Meghan sported earlier this month, and proved that she’s got a penchant for the cult accessories the industry is also coveting.

But as ever, Meghan’s wardrobe is a balancing act and every element is considered to the nth degree. Her Gucci splurge was offset against a Martin Grant trench coat that she is rewearing on the tour, her fail-safe Manolo Blahnik BB heels and Shaun Leane Tusk bracelet that she is rarely photographed without. With several days left to go, watch more fashion maths from Meghan ensue.
