Margot Robbie’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood promo tour looks have been defined by three things – bold eyeshadow, blown-out Hollywood waves, and cream dresses. The Hollywood premiere of Quentin Tarantino’s ninth film was no different, as the Australian actor and her glam squad (stylist Kate Young, hair stylist Bryce Scarlett and make-up artist Pati Dubroff) put the tried-and-tested formula into practice once more.
After a brief flirtation with Derek Lam for the photocall, the Chanel ambassador dipped back into the storied house’s collections for the culmination of her red-carpet moments (she has been plugging the film since Cannes). Robbie chose an ivory version of a long-sleeved black gown with deep V-neck, belted waist and exaggerated cuffs from the couture autumn/winter 2019 collection. Premiered on the runway in Paris mere weeks ago, Robbie postponed her 29th birthday celebrations to attend the show – and possibly pick her look for the looming premiere.
By wearing Virginie Viard’s first couture collection for Chanel, Robbie, who was welcomed into the brand fold as a fragrance ambassador in May, is pledging her allegiance to the new era of the house. After the July 2 presentation, which was set in a circular library inspired by Mademoiselle Chanel’s library in her 31 Rue Cambon apartment, Viard told press: “I dreamt about a woman with nonchalant elegance and a fluid and free silhouette; everything I like about the Chanel allure.” Robbie, with guidance from Young, is consistently emulating this persona – with a dash of the glamour of Sharon Tate, whom Robbie plays in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, thrown into the mix.
