She may have been turning 37, but this weekend, Megan, Duchess of Sussex spent her birthday celebrating two of her close friends. The newlywed royal joined her husband, Prince Harry, at the wedding of his childhood friend Charlie van Straubenzee to videographer Daisy Jenks on Saturday, August 4. The former American actor arrived hand in hand with the British royal at a church in Frensham, Surrey, just shy of three months after the couple tied the knot in Windsor Castle.

For her first birthday as a member of the Royal Family, Meghan sported an elegant midi dress by Club Monaco, which she cinched in at the waist with a knotted leather belt. Teaming the capped-sleeve design, which featured a pleated, color-blocked skirt, with her favorite Aquazzura pumps, the duchess hit the perfect note of refined yet summer-wedding-worthy. Her ensemble was topped off with a black fascinator by Philip Treacy, the milliner of choice for British royals, and loose, shiny waves swept over one shoulder.

The couple donned shades as they both entered the church, where Prince Harry acted as best man to van Straubenzee, whom he has known since Ludgrove Prep School. The weekend marked the second birthday of Meghan’s that the couple is believed to have spent together, with Prince Harry reportedly whisking off the duchess last year to mark the occasion in Africa.

The couple is not reported to have any official royal engagements scheduled for the rest of the month, with the British Royal Family often taking their summer holidays during August. According to the Daily Mail, the Duchess of Sussex will return to the US towards the end of the month to visit her father, Thomas Markle. The Mexico-based retired lighting director did not attend the royal wedding, citing ill health after he was revealed to have staged paparazzi photos of himself prior to the big day. He has since spoken out to the press, alleging that his daughter has “cut him off completely”. The royal’s visit is hoped to heal the family rift, the Mail reports.
