Ultra violet may have been christened Pantone’s Color of the Year, but if the fashion set is any indication, sunny shades of yellow are the hue of the moment. The yellow craze can be traced back to Amal Clooney, who after attending the May wedding of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry wearing a marigold Stella McCartney dress, sent the internet into frenzy. Reportedly, approximately 17,000 people took to search engines to seek out the yellow garb, meanwhile, searches for “yellow dresses” saw a 1,500% spike that same week.
Things would come full circle when Meghan celebrated America’s July 4 holiday wearing a cheery sunflower-yellow sheath dress from Brandon Maxwell, a look that would later be adopted by the Duchess of Cambridge. For the men’s Wimbledon finals on Sunday, HRH Catherine took a fashion cue from her new sister-in-law and chose a summery Dolce & Gabbana dress, complete with romantic caped sleeves.
Dubbed “Generation Z yellow”, the hue is practically the cooler younger sister of millennial pink (remember that?). Gen-Z yellow, which is somewhere between marigold and mustard, forged its roots on the Spring 2018 runways of Jacquemus, Marques’Almeida, and Tory Burch, and has been embraced by a number of A-listers including Yara Shahidi, Bella Hadid, Rihanna, and Kim Kardashian West to name a few. Below, we round up 15 yellow dresses that will undoubtedly brighten up your wardrobe.
