With the Covid-19 pandemic rapidly sweeping across the world, no country is likely to remain untouched from its drastic effects. Yet in times of difficulty, it’s comforting to see humanity rising up and standing together to support one another—whether it’s from two meters or 20,000 kilometers apart. As some of the biggest industry players in the world with unparalleled access to raw materials and manufacturing, major fashion conglomerates including Prada, Versace, and LVMH are stepping up and providing resources to the far-stretched fields of medicine, from funding intensive care units and donating face masks to developing hand sanitizers.

Carolina Herrera is the most recent designer to support initiatives of supplying sanitary materials to healthcare facilities to help alleviate shortages for the medical staff fighting at the frontlines. After all, “Family togetherness and solidarity are our most valuable assets during difficult times like these,” Herrera explained earlier this week.

The Spanish manufacturer of Herrera’s lifestyle brand CH Carolina Herrera, Sociedad Textil Lonia (STL), is lending resources to begin producing mass quantities of sanitary gowns that are becoming increasingly scarce in Spain as its coronavirus case numbers steadily increase. Each medical garment is created following the strict manufacturing protocols to ensure its effectiveness, with raw materials collected from healthcare institutions and transported to STL factories where they undergo a specially adapted production line before heading out for sterilization. In addition to gowns, face masks are also being manufactured to help meet the rising demand for workers in the food industry and preserve their safety.

As we experience this unprecedented global pandemic and ride daily waves of uncertainty and stress, it’s important for all of us to remember we are not alone. We are all experiencing this tumultuous time together and it’s up to each of us as individuals to decide how we will react and demonstrate the power of unity and love to one another. As Carolina Herrera de Baez said, “It’s time to be more generous, kinder, humbler, more understanding, more openminded, less judgmental, and more loving.”
