A new tome curated by Claudia Schiffer celebrates the Nineties Supers.
There’s a new must-have book to add to your coffee table collectibles. Supermodel Claudia Schiffer invites fashion lovers on a personal photographic journey of the Nineties with Captivate!. Featuring 150 images, including unseen photos from Schiffer’s own archives, it brings together photographers Arthur Elgort, Corinne Day, Ellen von Unwerth, Herb Ritts, and Richard Avedon, who captured Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Kate Moss, and Schiffer, who has been featured on the cover of more than 1,000 global titles over a career that spans three decades and counting.
“When you look at the last wave of the pre-digital age, you see different formats of fashion photography – from fine art prints to Polaroids, contact sheets, fashion magazines, campaigns, and model cards,” states Schiffer, who unveiled the book at an exhibition at Kunstpalast Düsseldorf, in the city where she was first discovered at 17 dancing at Checker’s nightclub. “As curator of this exhibition, I wanted to represent that range as well as include iconic cover shots, runway imagery, and candid backstage snaps. Captivate! is a celebration of fashion photography and of the teams of photographers, models, stylists, hair and makeup artists, and art directors that harnessed the transformative power of fashion,” she says. Along with the images, look for commentary from Anna Wintour, Edward Enninful, Grace Coddington, Donatella Versace, and Valentino Garavani.
