By Sauce and Dina Fawakhiri Create the Perfect Tribute to Arab Cinema

Coinciding with the Dubai International Film Festival next month, By Sauce teams up with Jordanian illustrator Dina Fawakhiri on three limited-edition T-shirts that pay homage to Arabic cinema. Hand-illustrated with Fawakhiri’s signature cartoon-ish style, the T-shirts feature legendary Egyptian actors Adel Emam, Fifi Abdo, and Zeinat Sedki, accompanied by their most famous catchphrases.

Emam, whose impressive career spans four decades, is depicted by way of a stern-faced illustration framed with the words “Na’am yakhti” (“Excuse me?”), which he coined during the golden era of Egyptian comedians. Abdo, who rose to fame in the 70s as a belly dancer and actor, is portrayed alongside her famed catchphrase “Khamsa Muahs,” which means “five kisses” in Arabic. The third nostalgia-infused T-shirt features the legendary female comedian Sedki, who was known for her quick wit and slapstick phrases such as “Ya Saba7 il Bonjour,” which is inscribed alongside her illustration.

The timeless T-shirts can go a long way in your wardrobe: layer one under a slip dress or pair with your favorite jeans. You can even wear one with your black-tie ball skirt at DIFF. The collaboration, which was unveiled today, is available at Sauce boutiques, as well as online for AED/SAR 250 per shirt.

It’s not the first time the Jordanian illustrator has collaborated with By Sauce. Fawakhiri has previously designed a flower-embellished deck chair exclusively for the multi-brand concept store.
