Bulgari has tapped Mary Katrantzou as the next designer in its “Serpenti Through The Eyes Of” series. Since launching in 2017, the series has seen many visionaries from the fashion world put their creative spin on the Italian fashion house’s iconic snake motif.
In the latest collaboration, the Greek designer’s couture craftsmanship joins forces with the luxurious accessories resulting in three new styles: the Serpenti Metamorphosis bag, the Serpenti Metamorphosis handle bag, and the Serpenti Metamorphosis minaudière.
Dubbed the “queen of prints,” Katrantzou’s passion for color, maximalist and uplifting style is evident in the design of the Serpenti Metamorphosis bag as it combines the snake’s transformative nature with the spectacular metamorphosis of butterflies. The most eye-catching out of the three pieces, the bag features three-dimensional embroidery and takes more than 40 hours of work of a skilled artisan.
The more subtle yet still statement-making Serpenti Metamorphosis handle bag is made of soft and smooth quilted Nappa leather with a metal top handle that is bound to turn heads with its unique shape. Katrantzou takes a more avant-garde approach with the minaudière. Not for the faint-hearted, the bag is shaped like a snake head. It is inspired by the Bulgari Serpenti watch, and is the first from Bulgari to be translated into a minaudière.
The collection was brought to life in a campaign lensed by French fashion photographer Hugo Comte and starring Russian philanthropist and model Natalia Vodianova. To mark the collaboration, Katrantzou has also created a selection of couture jumpsuits mirroring the jewel tones of the accessories which are worn by Vodianova in the campaign.
The capsule collection will be available in selected Bvlgari boutiques worldwide and on Bulgari.com from April 15.
