Breaking News from Paris: Karl Lagerfeld Honored with Paris Grand Vermeil Medal

Karl Lagerfeld Grand Vermeil medal

At the end of the Chanel Haute Couture Fall 2017 show, Karl Lagerfeld was awarded the Grand Vermeil Medal by Mayor Anne Hidalgo

After the Chanel Haute Couture Fall 2017 show, which took place at 1pm Paris time, Karl Lagerfeld was honored with the Paris Grand Vermeil Medal, the highest honor from the capital city, by Mayor Anne Hidalgo. The mayor said to Lagerfeld, “You are Paris.” The mayor later added, “Paris loves you.”

Three hours ago, Chanel posted its only teaser of the couture collection on its Instagram account. The maison recreated its own version of the Eiffel Tower – aptly named the #Chaneltower – for the set of its couture show that took place within the hour in the Grand Palais, Paris.

The venue is a regular for the couture house, after The Ritz played host to Chanel’s Métiers d’Art collection. “A certain elegance in a dream place – the idea was to do something for Paris,” Karl explained to Suzy Menkes after the Pre-Fall 2017 show. Indeed, the city has responded with gratitude today.
