“A couple of years ago we were inspired by braille, a marvelous language that empowers visually impaired individuals with independence and freedom,” say Fatma Al Falasi and Maitha Beljafla, the founders of one-month-old jewelry brand Braille Dubai, to Vogue.me. “This led to our commitment to raising awareness, and the love for jewelry turned into a new passion,” adds Al Falasi. The duo, who learned to read braille, went on to launch a line of thoughtfully made bracelets, necklaces, cuffs, and rings dotted with the tactile script made for the visually impaired, which spell out words like joy, love, and hope. The jewelry, which has been in the works for the past couple of years, looks great either on its own as a statement or layered with other pieces. As Beljafla points out, “Our jewelry makes you look chic around the clock.”
Fashioned in gold, rose gold, and diamonds, the made-in-the-UAE bijouterie can be customized (clients can choose the type of gold, message, size, and design,) and is available at Damas Jewellery stores in The Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates. Each piece contributes towards a good cause, with 10% of all proceeds going to the Noor Dubai Foundation.
