Billy Porter is known for his unapologetic style and statement red carpet looks. Despite this year’s Emmy Awards being held digitally, Porter didn’t hold back from bringing his show-stopping outfits to the event, wearing a custom-made ensemble by Saudi label, Ashi Studio.

The actor, who was nominated for the award for outstanding lead actor in a drama series, is loved for his unique and breathtaking looks on many red carpets throughout the awards seasons. At the 2020 Emmys, Porter made a statement dressed in a custom-made off-white suit, consisting of a “tailored jacket with draped detail” which was paired with flared-legged pants.

“Featuring the finest silk crepe, the ensemble’s fabrics exuded luxury, as the refined textures and finish came together for a dramatic emotional drape effect,” the label said of the ensemble. Adding: “The jacket’s structured shoulders were paired with a soft collar to enhance the neckline, while the drape’s generous flow of fabric was designed to frame around the body in layers that flow down to the floor for a dramatic royal appearance.”

Porter is a pioneer of challenging stereotypes and has become an important voice in working to diversify Hollywood. While this year’s Emmys feature more diverse nominations, a number of prominent figures, including actors, writers and producers say that Hollywood can do more. Porter along with actors Daniel Dae Kim, Jamie Chung, Isis King, and writer and producer Lin-Manuel Miranda was among the individuals featured in a 60-second commercial airing during the awards ceremony organized by the Alliance for Inclusive and Multicultural Marketing. The ad features Porter stating, “We are more than a splash of color on your white canvas,” a sentiment echoing his choice for the white ensemble. This follows other associations, such as the Academy Awards, committing to eradicate bias and discrimination in Hollywood.
