For Fall 2017, Bil Arabi by Nadine Kanso has launched the new ‘Khatt’ collection. Taking its inspiration from calligraphy and Kanso’s experiences with line typography, the new-season jewelry capsule is primed for personalization as it features all 28 letters of the Arabic alphabet on rings, ear cuffs, pendants, and bracelets. There’s scope to craft your own style DNA with the collection by choosing between gold and white gold finishes, different enamel colorways and, of course, the addition of diamonds to decorate a letter of significance.
Vogue.me spoke to the Bil Arabi designer, who celebrated the brand’s 10-year anniversary in October 2016, before the ribbon was cut on the label’s winter offering. From how the Beirut-born Kanso wears her new ‘Khatt’ collection to what’s on her nightstand, find out more about the dynamo behind the brand who has collaborated with the likes of Louis Vuitton and Gucci.

Describe the new collection in three words.
“Abstract, innovative and colorful.”
How do you wear the new collection?
“The signet rings are always great to wear two at a time. The round letter designs are also very stylish looking when adding on top of your wedding or diamond band, so you can stack them together.”
Can you share a vivid memory with us that inspired the new collection.
“I always wanted to feature letters in their abstract form, with a font that is graffiti inspired. Looking back, I believe each collection has led to this creative direction, which the brand is evolving towards. Over the years, I managed to find the right producers to help me create these unique pieces with a more artistic feel to it.”
What design elements celebrate your heritage?
“Of course the language, letters, and style of writing.”
Where do you relax when in Dubai and Beirut?
“In Beirut, it would have to be drinking coffee on the bustling corniche as I watch people walking by. In Dubai, walking along the sandy beaches or hanging out in my garden at home, listening to music and smoking a cigar.”
Inside your wardrobe there’s mostly…
“Jeans and bags.”
On your nightstand you always have…
“An Arabic book to read.”
Top of your playlist is…
“LP, Lost on You.”
Favorite place to go when you need to reflect
“In my mind.”
Your proudest career moment?
“Working on the 10-year anniversary of my brand, Bil Arabi, last October. Looking back at some of the great achievements and collaborations, which have inevitably led to the development of the Bil Arabi brand, makes me feel extremely proud at what we have accomplished.”
