Beyoncé Wears Palomo Spain for Her First Twins Portrait

Count on Beyoncé to break Instagram – this time by sharing a portrait of her one-month-old twin babies, Rumi and Sir Carter. In two days the post has gained more than 9.5 million likes and 300 000 comments, and counting.

The artist’s ensemble for such an announcement was certainly not going to be anything other than high-octane. Embracing her twins in her arms, she wears lingerie and an aquamarine veil, surrounded by a ruffled vintage-silk organza dress by Palomo Spain.

The dress was designed by Spanish designer Alejandro Gomez Palomo, of menswear label Palomo Spain. According to Palomo, the fabric used for the dress dates back to the 1950s or 1960s. The designer sourced the fabric at an old couture textile store, near his residence in Cordoba, Spain. “I thought, I am so in love with this fabric. It had a midcentury quality – but we changed that. It’s exquisite… and I can never find it again, of course. It’s a gown, now, that almost has the shape of a big fur coat – sleeved and open,” Palomo told Vogue US.

The dress was worn in the label’s Spring 2017 look book, modeled by a man. Palomo stated that “For the community that I represent, the feedback is really important and meaningful… I feel validated, in a way. It means a lot, I think.” Beyoncé had the menswear piece transformed into a gown, and little did Palomo know that the artist would be dressed in it for the declaration of the Carter twins’ arrival.

Twenty-four hours later, the singer posted a chic photograph with her husband, Jay-Z, in the same garden setting. Mabrouk to the couple.
