Bella Hadid attended the Sidewalk Sale for Social Justice in Brooklyn this weekend. The supermodel and proud new aunt to Gigi Hadid and Zayn Mali’s baby girl – whose name the couple is yet to reveal – donated a “lil rack of stuff” curated by stylist Haley Wollens to the Black Lives Matter fundraising event. One hundred percent of the proceeds, which organizer @sorrymydude later declared was US $40,645.16 (AED 149,167), went to Abundant Beginnings Collective and Brooklyn Supported Agriculture.

Over the summer of sales, the Brooklyn collective raised $266,546.60 (AED 978,223). “We didn’t expect any of this, but this is just proof of how strong community is,” said Hadid’s friend. “Showing up for each other and making shit happen in the worst of times, this is an extremely beautiful thing to experience… It’s not about the money you raise, it’s not about who’s there, it’s about you and your peoples who want to prove to this world that you have a heart and want to see change happen.”

Hadid, who has been sharing emotional posts about baby Zigi, wore printed streetwear to the sale, with her favorite vintage tooled leather bag slung over one shoulder. Sunday was not about flashy branding or cult accessories, but shining the spotlight on human rights. Hadid, in her low-key leisurewear, knew this and used her platform for a cause bigger than the fashion show content filtering down most of the industry’s feeds.
