The model first came into the spotlight when she opened the show for Dolce & Gabbana Couture and Alta Moda. Since then, she has been a part of the “Dolce Family,” as well as the cover girl for Vogue Beauty UA.
The Texas-born model is a fixture at well-known events amongst celebrities and other fashionistas. During the red carpet of Cannes Film Festival 2019, she caught many eyes with her rainbow couture dress made by the Lebanese designer Rami Kadi. Henry shared that she felt really lucky to be dressed in the gown for the film festival and that it was one of her most favorite looks. That’s where their relationship developed, and Kadi asked Henry to walk the runway for his Fall Couture show.
How did she prepare for her debut at the fashion world’s most anticipated week? Maya Henry exclusively tells Vogue.me:
After her quick lunch, Maya Henry leaves from Hotel Costes to reach the Rami Kadi show space at 1pm. “When Rami invited me to walk in the show, there was no hesitation. His collections are a celebration of women who feel confident about their style,” said Henry.
An hour later, at 2pm, the model arrives on set. “Your first Paris Couture show is a big deal for anyone and I am no exception. But when I saw the looks for the first time, I immediately connected with each piece.”
As soon as she arrives, the preparations begin and Henry is taken through the first fittings of her two looks by 2.30pm. “I was excited for the most part, but I’m usually quite calm during run-throughs, hair, and makeup.”
At 3pm, models were asked to do an individual run through embodying their special character. “Rami had given each model a narrative that encapsulated the individuality of each couture piece,” reveals Henry.
By 3:30pm, all the models are called and asked to do a quick walk through before they glam up.
It’s 4pm, and only 3 hours left before the show begins. The model goes into hair and makeup for her first look – a purple smoky eye. “My hair and makeup was all about a pulled back slick bun, clean skin, nude lips, and variation color smoky eye. I loved how the purple eye complimented both looks,” said Henry. “I was very tempted to leave it on for the rest of the night but I’m always a fan of a clean face before bed!”
Then, at 6pm, Henry gets into her first haute couture look designed by Rami Kadi.
With only 30 minutes left to the show, everyone is running around for last minute touch-ups. And Maya is finally ready. “About an hour before the show, I tend to put my earphones in and listen to some music which helps me get focused before we start,” shares Henry.
The clock reads 7pm, and the show begins.
After making her debut in Rami Kadi’s first look, she has some time to breathe before her second look goes on. “Once you start to get dressed and everyone is lining up, that’s when the adrenaline kicks in and before you know it, your first walk is complete, the second look is on and you’re back out for the finale.”
“It all goes by so quickly but you take that excitement and joy with you,” she adds. After the show’s over, Maya Henry takes an adorable picture with the designer Rami Kadi.
