Creative Director Pierpaolo Piccioli has yet again demonstrated his creative prowess by transforming a classic concept into a brilliant collection. Valentino’s “Black Tie” collection — seen this month in the pages of Vogue Arabia on none other than two of the region’s most loved women, namely Balqees Fathi and Salma Abu Deif — redefines conventional notions of uniformity, quite like the two women adorning them. The underlying philosophy champions the idea that dress codes can break the shackles of conformity, and symbolism can be open to fresh interpretations, new discoveries, and redefinitions. Renaissance, punk, rock – all come together under Piccioli’s guidance to weave a story that celebrates the beauty of contrast, the power of juxtaposition, and the boundless potential of artistic innovation.

Shot against the majestic backdrop of a palace in Beirut, Balqees and Salma’s striking shoot marks a historic juncture, capturing the essence of two prominent divas in the Middle Eastern entertainment scene who are also serving as esteemed ambassadors of Valentino. Fearlessly embodying an androgynous aesthetic, the new Valentino collection personifies a gender-fluid essence across a substantial portion of its looks, blurring the boundaries between traditional definitions of masculinity and femininity. Women rocked heavy sequined skirts or mini shorts paired with white blouses and black tie pieces, all spiced up with a fitted blazer. The men’s ensembles showcased a distinctive array of oversized tailored coats and blazers, creating a commanding appearance with a modern silhouette. And undoubtedly, the fashion house’s iconic embellishment — the Roman Rockstud — remained distinctive in the accessories.

The “Black Tie” collection also boasts eye-catching elements such as black and white zig-zag capes, and checkered coats with splashes of vibrant hues. Valentino’s signature rich red, a delicate yet lively chartreuse green, soft blush pink tones, deep oranges, and even pops of fluorescent yellow found their place within this eclectic assortment.

A true testament to Valentino’s unwavering commitment to craftsmanship and artistic finesse, the “Black Tie” collection beautifully accentuates the elegance, confidence, and boldness epitomized by Salma Abu Deif and Balqees Fathi. Picciolo artfully blurs the demarcations that have traditionally defined concepts, ushering in a new era of fashion that transcends conventional norms.
