Futureproof Your Silhouette The Balenciaga Way

The Pre-Fall 2017 collections may drop into your favorite boutiques late summer but the trend shockwaves are certainly happening right now. Balenciaga’s Pre-Fall 2017 lookbook was released at the end of April, so we have already redrafted our wardrobe agenda thanks to creative director Demna Gvasalia’s renegade spin on silhouettes and trailblazing approach to accessories. With the newly-announced LVMH 2017 prize winner Marine Serre currently working at the storied fashion house, we take a look at the silhouettes and key looks that are forming part of the current zeitgeist.

For Pre-Fall 2017: The take-homes are clear: supersized triangle bags are now a thing, and in pasture-green hues, no less. The headscarf has also been cemented as the cool new covering for millennials the world over, and not just for the region – the natty accessory is made relevant for the streets of Brooklyn and Beirut. Just opt for a fully loaded, unapologetic floral print and you’ll set the tone for a look that will keep its cool well into 2018. Is there any other way to dress?

Since his first collection – Fall 2016 – for the French fashion house, Gvasalia’s has imprinted a distinctive brand signature that keeps the industry hot on his heels. From his no-model-models on the runway to creating cult items like satin thigh-high stiletto boots, the epic dimensions of the Balenciaga puffa coat, and the throw-everything-in Bazar striped tote.

Here, Vogue Arabia looks to the new Pre-Fall 2017 offering to see what newness you should add to your sartorial agenda.

Load up your shades of blue with contrasting candy stripes of the hue with day and night textures. Satin boots to the supermarket, it is.

From gigantic leather pouf-shaped totes with a single handle to plastic shoppers, the Pre-Fall 2017 look incorporates a new shape to the fold: the green zip-up, two-ways-to-hold triangle handbag (inspired by ski-shoe bags used on the slopes). The latter is set to become a cult classic on the street style circuit for those who love an Instagrammable accessory.

The sophisticates are not left in the dark in this collection. Velvet mocha brown colors – seen on two sizes of totes styled in duos – are worn with mustard slide-ons and high-neck swing dresses primed for work or play.

While its bauble-like earrings and decadent crystal brooches are sure to ignite the love of fashion magpies, the frilly floral bonnet and headscarf are given a cool DNA now that they are teamed with matching floral dresses in fluid silhouettes.

The sloping shoulder jacket and cling-to-the figure satin dress is still present in the Balenciaga Pre-Fall offering. Boxy shapes are softened with irregular hemlines, geometric quilted leather bags, and pointy boots that gel the look together with an elegant ease. Clever.
