Summer may have officially changed your wardrobe agenda but one must always looks forward to emerging trends to stay at the cutting edge of cool. Fashion trends are becoming increasingly universal across menswear and womenswear, from the premium logo hoodie to the cool cache of the slick suit, made eternally elegant by Marlene Dietrich and revived with a modern-day spin by the likes of Evan Rachel Wood, circa Golden Globe Awards 2017 red carpet. As the menswear collections for Fall 2017 filed onto the screens of Vogue editors earlier this year, Demna Gvsaalia’s Balenciaga show was bound to be the talking point. And it didn’t disappoint. Inspired by “the subject of corporate dressing,” the Balenciaga design team delivered an urbane spin on what to wear to the office, with its creative director’s signature elevated streetwear remix.
Notably the Triple-S sneaker—featuring not two but three stacked soles—has been introduced to the FROW in various color combinations. The Triple-S is destined to be the It-shoe du jour for all urbanites—wear them with your sharp tailoring to inject a chill-factor to the look. The collection also drew inspiration from an unlikely source, citing in the show notes that the brand’s parent company Kering moved into the fashion house HQ and brought with it a host of corporate dress codes that Gvsalia’s team reinterpreted.
Vogue Arabia reflects on the sartorial twists to borrow from the Balenciaga boys from the Fall 2017 collection, ahead of the new Spring 2018 season menswear shows that kickstart on June 12th.
#1: Velvet trousers will still be in for Fall 2017 and beyond. Clash the luxe fabric with tweeds and cotton poplin.
#2: Supersize your scarves. Best worn looped and twisted off-centre over your tailored pieces.
#3: The puffer coat keeps its cool factor. Don’t delete it from your wardrobe.
#4: Stay suited—and expect more the sartorial two-pieces to appear in the womenswear shows come PFW. Plus, doubled-up totes get the Balenciaga nod of approval.
#5: The slim-line tie does a comeback. Consider adding one to your tux or suit combos to channel Lily-Rose Depp’s latest red carpet look.
#6: Logo hoodies remain at the zeitgeist. Layer them over your trouser and shirt combinations for a mix of street meets corporate.
