This Collection Proves That The Best Thing To Come Out Of Studio 54 Was The Fashion

Azzi & Osta is set to present its Fall 2019 Ready-to-Wear collection in the French capital during Paris Fashion Week. Here, the Lebanese design duo offer Vogue.me an exclusive look at the offering.

For this season, the glamorous womenswear label drew inspiration from the late ’70’s, more specifically, the disco era of Studio 54. The famous New York City club, which opened its doors over 40-years-ago, had one rule, according to the 2018 documentary of the same name: “Anyone who was allowed in was totally free inside.” This ideology served as the starting point for the Lebanese label’s “Rewind to 00:54” collection, informing the lineup of bright gowns and separates. “This fortress of glam was at an era when life was simple and carefree,” share the designers. “This collection celebrates femininity, freedom and individuality.”

The celebrity hotspot, which drew in the likes of Diana Ross, Grace Jones, and Bianca Jagger, had an unwritten more-is-more dress code. Think: Psychedelic colors, gold lamé, and sequins aplenty. These elements are all present in the new Azzi & Osta offering, taking the form of flared jumpsuits, glitter-encrusted gowns, and oversized sleeves in rich materials like wire lurex, jacquard, faux fur, crepe, and double satin. A more literal interpretation of the collection’s theme came via a bomber jacket, which featured a motif from Studio 54’s 1978 Valentine’s Day party invitation. A sparkling, one-shoulder gown and a sheer, polka-dot design with multi-colored embroidery was made for a modern Studio 54 glamazon. Meanwhile, the exaggerated capes were eye-catching too, and will no doubt dance their way into the closets of Azzi & Osta loyalists like Beyoncé and Kendall Jenner.
