Soon after celebrating the wedding of her daughter in Cairo, Assala took the stage in Dubai for an enthralling performance at Expo 2020 last night. The Syrian singer’s concert marked one of the world fair’s biggest ones, leading up to its closing ceremony on March 31. Singing her classical hits, Assala was joined at the concert by a few of the Arab world’s most-loved musicians—Saudi artist Abadi Aljohar, and Kuwaiti singer Nabeel Shuail.

For the occasion, the former Vogue Arabia cover star looked to Nicolas Jebran, one of her favorite Arab designers, who presented a fresh new look for Assala. Foregoing the Lebanese couturier’s usually-favored heavily embellished gowns, the singer opted for a floaty and breezy number appropriate for the open-air concert, while still keeping her signature look intact. The pink gown, made using printed tulle, came with a billowing cape, a closed neck bodice that flowed into a pleated skirt, and a waist-cinching belt in the same material. Complementing the soft and feminine look, Assala’s makeup was done using matching shades and featured a lavender smoky eye, glowy blushed cheeks, and a glossy pink lip. Her short brown locks were slicked back for a polished hairstyle, showing off her gold and purple earrings.

Assala and Jebran go way back, with the singer wearing the designer’s dazzling pieces on many occasions. “A shining star,” is how Jebran describes his muse. “A happy, rebellious, capricious, and positive spirit who never surrenders and who removes obstacles with her music.”
