Arwa Al Banawi On Her New Collaboration With Adidas Originals

“I remember back in high school, P.E. [physical education] was a class that no one took seriously. It felt like an extension of lunchtime and we would gather with our own clique to gossip. There was the group who excelled in academics, the artists, the misfits and the dreamers. While we were all different, we were just exploring our individuality – trying to carve out our place in the world,” says Arwa Al Banawi about her latest capsule collection in collaboration with Adidas Originals.

Titled “P.E.”, the athletics-inspired collection celebrates the idea of being comfortable with being different. Featuring French terry knitted sweatpants with side slits, shiny Spandex leggings, and black oversized hoodies, the offering doubles as a dose of on-trend motivation for non-gym goers to hit the treadmill. The Saudi designer’s mix of androgynous suit jackets as well as a custom camouflage prints are present throughout the collection.

Key pieces include logo T-shirts emblazoned with the Arabic word for “sassy” and long-sleeved shirts featuring the statement “You Say You Get Me But You Don’t” – a nod to the type of moody phrases you’d fine scribbled in the diaries of high school outcasts and teenage rebels.

The capsule collection is set to launch on Wednesday, September 13 at the Adidas BYND72 space in Dubai Design District and will be modeled by Vogue Arabia’s September muse Leena Alghouti as well as influencers Fatima Almomen and Rania Fawaz.
