It’s not Academy Awards night without a few appearances of creations by some of the Arab world’s most talented designers, and Oscars 2024 was a testament to just that.
As Hollywood’s most illustrious descended at the iconic Dolby Theatre for cinema’s biggest night, remarkable fashion was on full display on the red carpet. The Academy Awards or Oscars 2024 stars go all out in joy-inducing silhouettes, colors, and textures, with a few celebrities opting for Arab designers to make a statement.

Representing the region with more than just her attendance was Tunisian actor Hend Sabri, whose film Four Daughters was nominated for Best Documentary Feature. Sabri walked the red carpet with the film’s director Kaouther Ben Hania, wearing a black, off-the-shoulder gown by Lebanese designer Nicolas Jebran, paired with with Piaget jewelry.

Tamil-Canadian actor Maitreyi Ramakrishnan was one of them, as she chose a monochrome Zuhair Murad gown for the awards ceremony. Picked from the Lebanese couturier’s Spring/Summer 2024 Ready-to-Wear collection, the Never Have I Ever star’s dress featured a black-and-white ruched bodice adorned with an oversized bow at the hip and a skirt with a thigh-high slit. Alongside sparkling jewelry and black strappy sandals, the 22-year-old kept the rest of her look youthful by wearing her hair up in a textured top knot with loose strands framing her face, while winged liner, glowy skin, and a glossy pout rounded out her glam.
Ramakrishnan was not the only Gen Z favorite to look to Arab designers for the special occasion, as singer and actor Hailee Steinfeld also won hearts with a couture look by Elie Saab. The Hawkeye star’s look for the red carpet came straight off the runway from the Lebanese designer’s latest Spring/Summer 2024 couture collection. The pale blue number featured a strapless bodice embellished with golden leaf appliques which also adorned the cuffs linked to the neckline via a light, pleated fabric, making for the most dreamy detail as Steinfeld posed for pictures.
Besides actors, off-screen talents also favored regional designers, with makeup artist Nadia Stacey taking the stage to accept the Oscar for Best Makeup and Hairstyling for Poor Things wearing a Dima Ayad dress. At the equally anticipated Vanity Fair Oscars After-Party, Danai Gurira arrived in a coral-hued Zuhair Murad gown, and Isla Fisher in a black off-the-shoulder Marmar Halim number.
